The Higher Order Thinking (HOT) Schools Annual Summer Institute, hosted by The Connecticut Office of the Arts, is a highly acclaimed, week-long, residential conference for teachers, artists, administrators, staff members of arts organizations and parents interested in teaching and learning through the arts.
Educators from across Connecticut and the nation come together to work with some of the finest artists and instructors in the country. As they participate in daily seminars, workshops, interactive demonstrations and performances, they are immersed in an arts integrated approach to teaching and learning.
The Wave was installed at the HOTS Summer Institute over a period of four days from July 9 – 12, 2012. Each day, as The Wave grew in complexity, length and beauty, it became an integral part of the learning environment. Besides enhancing the physical space and serving as an interactive, community building activity, it challenged participants to develop and integrate lessons on topics like water, water conservation and access to clean water using the visual arts in similar ways that stir the senses and invite creativity.
